DONNA TABERER BIOGRAPHY

A bit about me

After 35 brilliant years in TV production, management and commissioning, Donna now focusses on supporting the careers of others.  Donna is recognised as an innovative, collaborative and creative leader with extensive networks.

Donna is an experienced programme maker, commissioner, learning and development and D and I specialist. She has a strong track record in initiating, devising and launching award-winning industry events and diversity programmes with impact and scale.   

At the start of the first Covid-19 lockdown, Donna designed and delivered the well-attended and widely recognised ScreenSkills free training to support freelancers throughout lockdown. She was also part of the three- person team who launched the Coalition for Change for freelancers.

Donna was a Channel 5 commissioner and Head of Entertainment and Features at Channel 5. She was also an Entertainment Commissioner at Sky. Previous to that she was a producer and editor at the BBC for approximately 15 years in factual programming and headed up large departments which boasted shows such as Top Gear, Watchdog and Planet Earth. Senior management positions included: BBC Creative Head Features and Formats Studio, BBC Deputy Controller and Factual and Learning BBC Deputy Controller.  

For five years she headed up the College of Production at the world-renowned BBC Academy training freelancers and BBC staffers. Here she designed and launched the award-winning Expert Women and Expert Voices campaigns and also devised and produced Fast Train, the largest free training events for freelancers.  She is a Grierson Trust Trustee and Former NFTS governor and was also formerly the Chair of RTS Futures. She authored the English Regions Skills Review: Building a Stronger Media Beyond London. And with others at the BBC, led Respect at Work and Change programme alongside Dinah Rose QC in the wake of the Jimmy Savile scandal.
